Sir,

!

45

Kuala Lumpur,

Federated Malay States,

5th January, 1925.

With reference to your letter No.813/23 dated

24th November, 1924, forwarding a statement showing the

pension payable to Mr. E. A. Irving, late Director of Education, Hongkong, and the proportion payable by the Federated Haley States Government, I am directed to inform you that in the statement forwarded by you only the half salary drawn by Mr. Irving during half pay leave appears to have been reckoned in arriving at the aggregate salaries

draw in the Federated Malay States and Hongkong.

2.

Acording to the Secretary of State's despatch Ceylon No.667 dated 15th November 1922, a copy of which is enclosed, it would appear that for purposes of reckoning aggregate salary, leave on half pay or without pay is regarded as leave on full pay.

3.

I am, therefore, to forward herewith apportion- ment statements computed on the above basis and to inquire if the Hongkong Government agrees with the calculations shown

therein.

I have, &c.,

(sd.) 8. W. Jones,

p.Under Secretary to Government,

Federated Malay States.

Honourable

The Colonial Secretary,

Hongkong.
